How Common Are Panic Attacks (Anxiety Attacks)?

Panic attacks (anxiety attacks) can happen to almost anybody, and at almost any time.
Although a panic attack (anxiety attack) will often appear completely out of the blue, it will be triggered by something, even if that ‘thing’ doesn’t seem obviously apparent.
Once the panic attack is triggered, the person feels a level of anxiety (panic) that is disproportionate to the level of physical danger.
This disproportionate level of anxiety (panic) happens because the person’s mind is ‘overprotecting’ them. It has ‘mis-read’ the level of physical threat.
The number of people who experience isolated incidences of panic attacks (anxiety attacks) is estimated to be as much as one in ten (10%).
The number of people who experience panic attacks regularly enough to be potentially classified as suffering from a ‘panic disorder’ has been estimated to be somewhere around 2%.
